Seperate or separate? Is Riviera a proper name? These aren't just questions debated by Scrabble players, also in Typo 2D it can mean the difference between victory and defeat.



Typo 2D is the successor to the classic card game Typo, published in 2004. In 2005 Typo got a well earned place on the Spiel des Jahres recommended list and in the runners-up list of the À la carte card game award. Now, with the help of Spieleschmiede, we'd like to publish the sequel. But we'll need your help!

What is Typo 2D?

he basic game mechanics of Typo remain the same, of course, but designer Corné van Moorsel has made a few changes. As the name of the new game suggests, Typo is taking a step in the second dimension, and now allows both horizontal and vertical word chains. The most visible change is the new cards. The cards will not only be in a new square format, but will also receive a colorful re-design. The new cards will make Typo 2D easier to play on a normal table, and will also be thicker than the original Another change are the symbols on some of the cards. These allow the cards to not only be placed at the beginning or end, but also to be moved or replaced. Three of these new symbols are "Swap", "Empty spot", and "Insert".

A game for everyone

ypo 2D shouldn't be thrown into the same category as games like Scrabble just because it's a word game. With Typo 2D casual and non-gamers will also get their money's worth. Players with a larger vocabulary won't have any great advantage.

The ability to read the other players is important, because the words are chosen simultaneously. But the biggest difference between this and other word games is the creativity. Many correct and incorrect words will be played in the course of the game, resulting in funny situations - often because just one letter is enough to change an entire word. The game lasts about 30 minutes.

How do you play Typo 2D?

layers of 6 Nimmt! will feel right at home with Typo 2D. Each player receives a hand of cards, and 1 more is placed on the table. By adding cards on the table, players build at words. To begin a round each player will choose one card, placing it face down on the table, and reveal them simultaneously. In alphabetical order the players will then add their cards to those already on the table. The player must say a word that begins with the chain of letters. For example, if an S is on the table and an A is added, then ASk or SAnd could be named. If the next player can't build at a word, he is forced to take half the cards from the longest row of letters into his hand. The winner is the first player to empty their hand.

Our funding goals

e've got several goals in this Spieleschmiede project. We don't want Typo 2D to be just a sequel - we want to improve and expand the game. Already 10 years we've been working on making Typo playable in two dimensions, and now that's finally finished! And there are more features we would like to implement with your help:

4.000 € - Game financed: At 4.000 Euro we can produce Typo 2D, the sequel to Typo. The game will contain 63 cards for two to six players. That are 61 letter cards, an exclusive Spieleschmiede wild card, and a tie-breaker.

5.000 € - 7th player (+10 cards): When we reach this goal the game will include 10 more cards. This provides enough cards for an additional player, so now up to seven players will be supported.

6.000 € - Wild cards for vowels and consonants: At this level we'll add two additional wild cards. Similar to the exclusive Spieleschmiede wild card, they can be used in place of a letter. However these two wild cards have the additional restriction that they can only be used as either vowels, or consonants.

7.000 € - Language specific letters (+20 cards): At this level we have enough funding for the language specific version of Typo 2D. Depending on the language (German, English, French, and Dutch), the unused letters will be removed from the game (indicated by small flags on concerning cards).

8.000 € - Higher quality cards: When we reach this goal we can use even higher quality card material. The cards will be thicker and more solid, for a more luxurious feeling.

9.000 € - Typo 2.5D: This level isn't a new game, the name will remain Typo 2D, but we'll include a rule variant for diagonal words in the rulebook.

Exclusive rewards

s an exclusive reward, only for Spieleschmiede supporters, every Typo 2D will include a special Spieleschmiede wild card. This special card will only be found in the Spieleschmiede version of Typo 2D, and won't be included in the retail version.
The cards in Typo 2D don't only get the new design, but you'll have the unique opportunity to immortalize you name on one of the game cards. The Spielernetzwork and four bloggers give 10 of the card names. That leaves 51 more letter cards available to you! By reaching the over-funding goals another 30 cards with names can be added. Please be aware that you will not be able to choose a specific card. We'll arrange it so that every name is given an appropriate place.



In addition, you have the opportunity to support the new Typo 2D project by adding a copy of Mayday!Mayday!. You can add-on one of the 100 remaining Mayday!Mayday! games with the unreleased 9 and 10 player expansion. This exclusive expansion won't be officially available in Germany until October 2014, and up to now has only been available as a reward through Spieleschmiede. Now we're giving you another chance to get a copy, as a way to support Typo 2D.

Who is behind Typo 2D?

he creative mind behind Typo 2D is Corné van Moorsel, an experienced game designer from the Netherlands. Corné has designed more than 40 games, including the successful Spieleschmiede projects Mayday!Mayday! and Leelawadee. In spite of his many more recent games, Typo has always remained a passion which he still plays regularly at home in the Netherlands.

Delivery in August

ur goal is to deliver Typo 2D in August 2014 at the latest. Spiele-Offensive.de will handle the delivery of the rewards. Backers in Germany will receive everything shipped for free. For other countries see this postage cost table. (USA: € 7,00 )
