Hello Backers, please be aware that most of the promo material will be released in German only. Some are language neutral, some will be multilingual.
Thank you very much for your support!
In 2015, the YouTubers Hunter & Cron organised the 1st Berlin Board Game Convention, thus creating a real board gaming event in eastern Germany. The Berlin Con has since become an important highlight in the board gaming calendar, on the weekend before the awarding of the Board Game Oscar, the "Spiel des Jahres" award.
In the past five years, the Berlin Con has grown from a 300-person event in a school in Berlin-Friedrichshain into full-blown convention in Berlin Stadium, with 10,000 attendees.
Organising such an event is far more than a mere hobby project. For Johannes Jaeger and his two employees Andreas Langkamp and Alexander Koppin, it is by now their full-time job. The big jump to the new venue in 2019 involved high investments on their part, and their hope was to finish off 2020´s event by finally breaking even.
That was our situation when the global pandemic arrived. Although we hoped at first that a reduced event with strict hygiene regulations might still be feasible, we soon realised that we would have to accept a complete cancellation in 2020.
We also saw no realistic way to port the event into the virtual world. On the one hand, we didn´t have the necessary financial means, and on the other, we consider the time spent together to be the defining feature of Berlin Con.
Due to this complete cancellation, we now face significant challenges. While we were able to reduce personnel costs thanks to short-time work, we were not able to profit from other government relief measures, since our company is so small and young.
In order to ensure that Berlin Con has a future and will be able to keep on taking place as we know it, we would like to ask you for your support!
Our aim is to safeguard all of our jobs while at the same time have enough savings to let the event take place in the same place and with as many guests as last year.
As we cannot predict the further development of the pandemic, we are unable to say for sure how much support we will require. That is why we have chosen 25,000 € as our funding goal. That will definitely be enough to help us out. Should we manage to reach the stretch goal of 50,000 €, that would do a lot to calm our worries for the coming summer.
Whatever the outcome of this campaign, we will do all we can in the coming months to ensure that we will be able to play together again this summer.
All proceeds from the campaign will go towards Berlin Board Game Con and will be invested in the preparations for the coming event (salaries and initial costs).
IMPORTANT: All tickets for the 2020 event have been converted to vouchers. If you would like to use these to support us, you can do so in our own ticket shop. For the duration of this campaign, you can exchange the vouchers for supporter rewards of the same price. Of course, you can also use the vouchers for tickets and merchandise for the 2021 event! Finally, another way to support us is to simply not use your voucher and thus forfeit the cost.
Our plan, assuming the pandemic allows us, is to hold the 2021 Berlin Board Game Con from 16th to 18th of July 2021. As soon as the situation allows for reliable planning, we will begin with the advance sale of tickets. However, this will not happen before the coming spring.
We are very grateful for all of you that wish to help us and would like to give all of you a heart-felt THANK YOU!
Please note: All physical rewards will likely be dispatched in summer 2021. For organisational reasons, a pick-up at the convention will unfortunately not be possible.
Your support will not only help guarantee the future of Berlin Board Game Con. As a small token of gratitude, you will also receive one of the following rewards.
If you would like your name to be mentioned on our thank-you poster and on our home page, you can agree to this by adding the 0€ add-on to your pledge.
With this pledge, you simply support our convention with 5€ and can look forward to it taking place with your support. We are very grateful for your help! As a reward, you will receive the Spieleschmiede achievement badge.

Berlin Board Game Con was created in 2015 by the two YouTubers Hunter & Cron. After growing quickly in the first few years, it was founded as a company in 2018.
Alongside their YouTube channel, this is the second financial pillar for Johannes Jaeger ("Hunter"), while Cron still works as a freelance screenwriter. The main portion of the work, however, is by now done by the two full-time employees Andreas Langkamp and Alexander Koppin. We are further supported by our in-house student Emilia.
And, of course, we are further supported by our team of Berlin Con helpers. They support us during the build-up and teardown of the convention and are the people you will meet on-site, when you buy tickets, get games at our games library, or need someone to explain a game to you. They are our heroes, without whom Berlin Board Game Con would not be possible. Thank you so much to all of you!
Fulfilment of your rewards will be handled by Spiele-Offensive.de. The following shipping fees apply.
Please do not add the shipping fees to your pledged amount yourself. Spieleschmiede will calculate them based on your shipping address and will add them automatically.
